A FUN THING HAPPENED!
Our piece made it into the Metro good news feed! Somebody must have passed on their positive affirmation, the piece WORKED. IT WORKED.
So this week I moved to work with Lily on Food. We spoke about what we're interested in - she had the idea of making a 'water cafe'. In the future people will look for luxury in simple things - the same way hipsters ruined cereal. Maybe water will be scarce too, but we were looking more at ideas of luxury and food rather than environmental issues.
We had a brainstorming session with tea and cake!
Decided that the advertising for our cafe should be slightly religious looking - like mannerist paintings. But with too many BIG smiles and people looking too damn happy for it to be real happiness:
We came up with this sketch (both drawing on the same page):
And Lily ~digitised~ it!
We couldn't decide on colours so we tried a few different combinations:

This is what we ended up with:
We liked the acidic kind of pop colours, like an advert for a very sweet alcoholic drink that's kind of aimed at underage drinkers but not really. If you get me. It's an aspirational image, along the lines of those Got milk? adverts:
We made the piece by first projecting our design:
And got to work drawing over the lines:
Then we took it outside to start painting! We were using spray cans for the first time, they're kind of awesome. Really fun to use, instant gratification.
Wahey!
We hung it up on the big stage rigging! After trimming the bottom and nearly slicing my finger off. Here are some details:
Then for the water cafe part we served drinks - just £8.00 each! Bargain!
Yay! What fun!
